Over the weekend, Gardaí in Monaghan taking part in the national "Life Saver Operation" made a number of detections in the Carrickmacross area.
The Garda operation was carried out by forces across the country over the weekend with the aim of focussing on the four lifesaver offences of intoxicated driving, speeding, using mobile phones and seatbelt offences.
In Monaghan, the local roads policing unit detected two unaccompanied learners and, in those cases, Gardaí seized the three vehicles involved. Officers also issued fixed penalty notices to motorists not wearing seatbelts, for not having valid NCT, non-display of 'N' plates and no tax
