A Co Meath priest is vying for his chance to represent Ireland on the Eurovision stage. Fr Ray Kelly, who is the Parish Priest in Oldcastle - shot to fame in 2014 when his rendition of Hallelujah went viral on social media.
His musical life changed dramatically thereafter and he has since recorded three albums. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Fr Ray said the Eurovision is something that remains very close to his heart.
He added how he entered a song last year but was unsuccessful, however, he remains hopeful this year's submission will be a success. "When I was on Dancing with the Stars someone reminded me in an anomyous letter about what happened to John the Baptist when Salome danced for him - he was beheaded.
"Almost like a threat; somebody else said would you not give up that ol' dancing and this the season of Lent. I can assure everybody that the people of Oldcastle are not losing out in any way just because I love to dance," Fr Ray said.
