'The job of the Oireachtas Tourism Committee is to ensure that the Irish people and tourists are not ripped off'.
That's according to local TD Niamh Smyth, who is the Chair of the Tourism Committee.
However, she adds that there is a "balancing act" in ensuring the viability of regional hotels.
The Oireachtas Tourism Committee will soon hear from the Irish Hotels Federation, Fáilte Ireland and the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation.
It follows accusations of price gouging, with people reporting being charged hundreds of euro for a one-night hotel stay, when big events are on.
However, hotel bosses say bed shortages and strong demand means many average-priced hotel rooms sell out months in advance.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show in advance of the Committee, Niamh Smyth urged hoteliers to take a "long term view":
