The Chair of the Oireachtas Committee for Media says an RTÉ satirical sketch about God that aired on New Year's Eve "trivialised violations against women" and "horrified" most of the nation.
The sketch, which depicted God as a rapist, is to be removed from the RTE Player, while it's Director-General Dee Forbes has apologised on behalf of the national broadcaster.
Local TD Niamh Smyth also expressed disappointment that RTÉ didn't remove the sketch sooner, adding that it raises questions about RTÉ's "moral compass".
Deputy Smyth says RTÉ knew it was "insulting, insensitive, and distasteful", and questioned whether it would broadcast a similar sketch on other major religions:
