The Oireachtas has been called on to erect a plague or memorial to Monaghan
Senator Billy Fox.
Yesterday marked 47 years since he was shot by the Provisional IRA in Tircooney, between Smithborough and Clones.
He arrived at the home of his girlfriend Marjorie Coulson as 11 Provisional IRA members were raiding the property after they were wrongly tipped-off UVF
weapons were being stored there.
Aughnamullen already has a memorial park named after the late Senator and there are plans for an interactive centre at Christ Church in the village
where he is buried.
But Louth Senator John McGahon called for the Oireachtas to erect a tribute
to him also:
