There's a call on the Taoiseach to 'stem the tide of closures' in nursing homes. Operators across the country have written to Micheál Martin calling for more funding to tackle the cost crisis.
17 nursing homes have closed this year, due to a 73% differential in spend between a Health Service Executive (HSE) nursing home resident and one in a private nursing home.
Nursing Homes Ireland Chief Executive, Tadhg Daly says they aren't getting enough money to meet rising costs. "The costs are rising exponentially. We have seen over the last number of years that costs have risen by 35% whereas the weekly fee is rising by 11%.
"So, what we are seeing now is the viability of many nursing home is being threatened and many more are facing closure," he added.
