Councillor Peter Conlon says the Nuremore Hotel in Carrickmacross has been a "beacon of positivity" for the North East area since as long as he can remember. The Fine Gael representative was reacting to news that the landmark hotel and golf resort has been officially sold to the McGettigan group.
Responding to this morning's positive news, Cllr Conlon said the newly-refurbished Nuremore will be an "economic driver" for the region and bring with it new jobs. Speaking to Northern Sound about the benefits of this sale, Cllr Conlon says "business breads business" and that "beds are needed" in South Monaghan for events which will bring business, employment and positivity to the area.
The Carrick councillor hopes the hotel will be "up and going" as soon as possible; "The Nuremore has everything that the community miss, and it's also an attraction. People like coming to this hotel, they can leave the hotel, there's beautiful scenic routes to walk into the town, spend some money and walk back. We're beside the N2 and that's one hour from Belfast and one hour from Dublin. It's ideally located, if you had a tick box exercise, it ticks all the boxes for a prosperous hotel and local amenity, it just needs to get up and going as soon as possible and I hope that's what will happen to it in the near future."
