A number of detections were made by Cavan Gardaí for both drink and drug driving over the bank holiday weekend. In a statement issued to Northern Sound News, the Cavan Roads Policing Unit described the recent bank holiday period as a "busy one."
According to local Gardaí, a number of arrests for dangerous driving were made and a number of motorists also received Fixed Payment Notices for excessive speed.
One young motorist was detected travelling at 170 kmph on the N3 in the Virginia area. Despite all media appeals, Gardaí in Cavan warned that some drivers still continue to risk their lives and the lives of other road users. As a result, Gardaí are calling on motorists to never drive while under the influence of drink or drugs and to slow down.
