The Nuremore Hotel in Carrickmacross is to go on sale within a week. The landmark hotel and leisure centre has been closed since the beginning of 2023 after its golden-visa funded owners Huawen Foundation ran into financial and legal difficulties. While it has been closed there had been concerns the Nuremore would fall into disrepair or be used to accommodate asylum seekers.
Minister for Rural Development Heather Humphreys, however, said work has been being going on constantly behind-the-scenes with the liquidator who was appointed in march last year. Overnight, the Cavan - Monaghan TD confirmed the legal process regarding the ownership and sale of the Nuremore was complete and the liquidator says he expects to put the hotel on the open market within a week.
Declan DeLacy also said he has already received strong expressions of interest in the Nuremore from buyers in the hotel sector. Minister Humphreys said she is delighted the north-east will have its hotel restored to its former glory: "I do look forward to a new purchaser coming on board and investing in it and returning it to its former glory," Heather Humphreys told Northern Sound, "I'm very positive after the conversation I've had with the liquidator because there's a number of people from the sector interested in purchasing it. I will continue to do everything I can to make sure that it is returned to a hotel in the north=east region because it's very much an iconic hotel and very much needed."
