A Do Not Consume Notice has been put in place for all consumers on the Billis-Lavey Group Water Supply Scheme due to elevated levels of manganese.
The water should not be used for drinking, brushing teeth, or for preparing food and boiling the water will not make it safe to consume.
The water can still be used for personal hygiene, such as showering and bathing, and for washing clothing and utensils.
It is not yet known when the notice will be lifted and Cavan County Council is currently liaising with the HSE.
An alternative water supply is being provided at Lisgrey House Virginia and Lavey Inn and those using it are being asked to bring their own containers and boil the water before consumption.
