The coldest temperature recorded of any weather station in the country was in Kilcogy, Co. Cavan at -8.2 Celsius. As predicted, when Met Éireann issued a status orange weather warning beginning at 6pm yesterday evening, temperatures dropped to well below sub-zero overnight.
The warning was in place until 11am with the mercury rising during sunshine hours. This morning, a temperature of -3.4 degrees at the Ballyhaise weather station.
Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel told the Joe Finnegan Show earlier that during the "exceptional cold night" snow fell in some parts of the Shannonside / Northern Sound region like in Leitrim and parts of Roscommon. However, he forecasts a reprieve as we head into the weekend:
