Monaghan County Council have completed the installation of a roadside noise barrier to reduce the impacts of traffic noise on residents located along the east side of the N2 at Monanny. A once-off Environmental Noise Barrier funding allocation has been secured from TII to address this legacy noise problem. A permanent Vehicle Restraint System also known as a crash barrier will be erected to the roadside of the noise barrier within the next 2-3 weeks.
Meanwhile, Monaghan County Council are also in the process of preparing a Noise Action Plan (NAP) for the period of 2024-2028. The Environmental Protection Agency are currently finalising preparation of Noise Maps which will feed into the NAP to identify high priority areas along the national road network that may require interventions. It is expected that the Noise Maps will be available by the end of this month.
Welcoming the noise barrier works, Sinn Féin's Noel Keelan said that this was a "quality of life" issue when it came to local residents. He said that going forward, he hopes this will make "life easier" for those living close to the N2.
