Monaghan County Council has voted to leave the Local Property Tax rate for 2024 at the same rate that it currently stands at for this year.
Councils each year vote on their rate, with each able to increase or decrease it by 15 per cent from the national base rate.
According to Cllr Paudge Connolly, the rate as it stands allows for the money to be spent on local projects such as the popular Rossmore Park attraction and many other beneficial community initiatives across Monaghan.
Sinn Fein Councillors had called for a decrease for the year ahead of 15% which would have worked out at a saving of 14 euros a year to homeowners. The call from Sinn Fein was defeated, which in turn meant the figure would be to left as it stands.
Several councillors highlighted the fact that the funds are extremely went spent across the region and lots of facilities would not be possible if the local tax was not in place and at the current rate. The funds are used to support a discretionary Municipal Allocation which goes towards matched funding for local projects in the three MDs.
Cllr Connolly welcomed the confirmation at this month's sitting of Monaghan County Council that confirmed that there would be no change to the consumer for the year ahead when it came to LPT.
