No changes have been made to the planned routes of the N2 upgrade following last year's public consultations.
The Preferred Route Corridors for the two sections have been announced today.
The 'Emerging Preferred Routes Corridors' were published last summer, with a public consultation held afterwards.
Under the scheme it's planned the existing N2 route from Ardee to Castleblayney will be upgraded.
Further north on the Clontibret to the border scheme, the new road will deviate from the existing N2 at Castleshane to bypass Monaghan town and Emyvale.
Monaghan County Council and Jacobs Consulting Engineers today announced there would be no changes to the routes after the latest public consultation.
They say over 260 submissions were received on both schemes but there was "no new or additional information of significance" to warrant changes to the routes.
Work will now begin on the design of the road and junctions, identifying the land required and the preparation of environmental assessments.
That work will take place throughout 2021 and 22.
