The bank holiday weekend proved to be a busy one in regards to Road Safety Enforcement across Cavan and Monaghan. A total of nine drivers were arrested on suspicion of drink driving and one for drug driving (cocaine) in the Cavan Monaghan Division.
The circumstances of detection varied from checkpoint detection, initial speed detection, erratic driving and attendance by members at traffic collisions. According to local Gardaí, none of the accidents resulted in any serious injury "thankfully" and a number of the drivers involved were learner permit holders. Gardaí are continuing to appeal to road users not to drive under the influence of drink or drugs, despite there still being a minority who risk their lives and the lives of other road users.
