The Taoiseach is expected to raise the issue of Brexit when he addresses the European Parliament this morning.
His address will mark 50 years since Ireland decided to join the then European Community.
Michael Martin made a renewed call on the British Government to engage meaningfully on issues surrounding the Northern Ireland Protocol following a series of meetings in Strasbourg.
Fine Gael MEP Frances Fitzgerald says she expects the Taoiseach will also deal with the issue of EU enlargement.
"He will also reference Brexit and the challenge of EU enlargement," she continued.
"It's an important part of the agenda because is it really fair to say to the Ukrainians and others to wait for another generation before you become a member?"
