A new Youth Service Scheme has been launched for Cavan and Monaghan.
Four local youth groups have received funding as part of the new UBU, Your Place Your Space programme and the CMETB in partnership with Youth Work Ireland and ISPCC will now be operating new projects in communities throughout the region.
The programmes for Cavan will be facilitated by local youth service providers; Bounce Back West Cavan, Bounce Back South East, while in Monaghan they will be organised by Include and Monaghan ISPCC.
The aim of these new services to support young people to develop the personal and social skills required to improve their life chances including their health, education, employment and social connectedness.
The scheme, which is for people aged 10 to 24, is specific and targeted towards young people who may find themselves marginalized, disadvantaged or vulnerable and are most in need.
Caolan Faux is the CEO of Youth Work Ireland in Cavan/Monaghan and he says that it is hugely important for all age groups to engage and get this support.
He highlighted to Shannonside Northern Sound that there are different needs as you grow up and that it may move from needing a weekly cafe drop in to transition to college support, or life skills are young people develop.
However, he also stressed that many of the concerns that young people have can span across many ages.
