New website is "gateway" into history of Cavan's 2,000 townlands

The project began with Michael McShane tracing his ancestry back to the townland of Cloggy.

A new website has been launched which promises to be a "gateway into the history of Cavan's 2,000 townlands".

cavantownlands.com is a project by Michael McShane and his wife Catherine Kerr to document the 2,000 townlands in the county.

Although not a native of Cavan, Michael traced his ancestry back to the townland of Cloggy in the parish of Killashandra and this research has developed into a keen interest in historical sources for County Cavan.

Michael and Catherine have spent 12 years researching the history of the townlands, and are now seeking more historical information, such as stories, photos, and maps, to include in the website.
