Minister for Rural and Community Development, local TD Heather Humphreys, has announced significant new support for the village of Doohamlet, County Monaghan.
Doohamlet Community and Resource Centre has been selected as one of 14 organisations to enter the Community Services Programme. The programme supports community-based organisations in providing local services and creating employment opportunities for disadvantaged groups.
It does this through the provision of financial support, allowing these organisations to hire dedicated staff. The news means that specific funding will be provided by the Minister's Department to pay the salaries of staff at the centre.
Making the announcement, Minister Humphreys said the Doomhamlet Community Centre is an absolutely wonderful facility that acts as the heartbeat of this rural community. Minister Humpreys says It's a place where people of all ages come together, partake in various different activities, and meet up with family and friends, adding that since the community centre was opened in April 2022, it has just gone from strength to strength.
