A new sergeant is due to be allocated to Ballyconnell by the end of this year or early next year.
Sergeant Shane Heslin retired several months ago and another Sergeant has temporarily taken over, but Cavan Superintendent Padraic Jones acknowledged this person is "essentially double-jobbing".
At a recent Cavan Joint Policing Committee, Sinn Féin TD Pauline Tully asked for a timeline on when a new sergeant will be in place, with
Superintendent Jones saying he recognises the need to appoint one soon.
He added that a new competition is currently open and they are keen to get a full-time replacement.
