A new €150m fund for vacant properties will "transform" local towns and villages That's according to Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fail TD, Deputy Brendan Smith, who says the new Urban Regeneration Fund will provide for the restoration of vacant and derelict buildings.
The Fund is aimed at enticing local authorities to tackle vacancy and dereliction in their areas by bringing properties into re-use for housing. Deputy Smith says there are numerous "eyesores" across the region and it's time to bring these buildings back into use.
He added that it's important to have a consistent strategy for tackling vacancy and dereliction and this funding is a step in that direction. "The funding will allow buildings that have fallen into disuse and lain derelict for years to be restored.
“Instead of being an eye sore in their localities these buildings will become homes and increase the housing stock. It's important that we have a consistent strategy for tackling vacancy and dereliction and this approach is another step in that direction," Deputy Smith said.
