New rent report shows 'future for renters is not bright due to lack of housing'

Rents nationwide have doubled since 2011.

The future for renters is not bright due to a lack of housing.

That's according to Corina Timothy, who is Threshold's regional services manager for the North and West.

New figures from the Residential Tenancies Board reveals that rent nationally was up 9% in the final quarter of last year.

The figures also show rent has doubled since 2011.

The average rent in Co Cavan is €778 a month - while this is a quarterly decrease of 2.6%, it's a year-on-year increase of 6.6%.

Meanwhile in Co Monaghan, the average rent in the final quarter of last year was €805 - up 2.7% quarter-on-quarter, and an increase of 15.5% year-on-year.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Corina warned that renters will face increasing pressure due to a lack of housing:
