A chainsaw artist is currently working on an innovative project in Cavan's Con Smith Park. Members of Cavan Tidy Towns were informed last year that a number of trees in the popular Con Smith Park were to be destroyed due to ash die back disease. In a bid to give the damaged trees a second life, the local tidy towns group made contact with 'Gintas Carving' who is now on a mission to turn five tree stumps into unique pieces of artwork which represents the local wildlife of Co Cavan.
Live chainsaw carving is currently taking place at the popular amenity, with locals encouraged to "pop by" and see Gintas in action. Speaking to Northern Sound, Paul Lynch of Cavan Tidy Towns said the initiative not only highlights the wildlife and biodiversity of Cavan but also brings an element of brightness and fun for people to enjoy when visiting the park.
Paul explained; "The creations are absolutely fantastic and Gintas is just so creative. We've put up a security cordon around where Gintas is working and we've actually moved some of the public amenity benches to that area, so members of the public can actually head down and watch Gintas at work as long as you stay behind the barrier at all times it really is memorising and such a nice experience."
