Cavan County Council has confirmed a new design for the junction at the top of main street in Bailieborough. The design is expected to be submitted to Transport Infrastructure Ireland for approval in the coming days.
Deputy Niamh Smyth described the junction as "dangerous" and one that needs attention. She says motorists from Kingscourt, Virginia and Bailieborough converge in the area causing traffic chaos as they go.
She added that a traffic management system will shortly be put in place to facilitate the changes needed. "This is something that I have been working on. This is a disastrous junction at the top of Bailieborough's main street.
"It is a junction where traffic convenes from the Dublin/Virginia Road, the Kingscourt Road, the Institute Road and the main street. And for years it has been causing havoc and has become a real death trap," she concluded.
