New Monaghan domestic violence accommodation centre to be more than a refuge

Cavan and Monaghan are two of only a small number of counties that currently don't have a domestic violence refuge.

A Monaghan Domestic Violence service says the proposed new accommodation centre will be more than a refuge.

Earlier this month, Monaghan County Council confirmed that it's in the early stages of locating a suitable site.

Cavan and Monaghan are two of only a small number of counties to not have a domestic violence refuge, meaning victims currently need to travel to seek support.

Siobhan McKenna from Tearmann Domestic Violence Services in Monaghan town says the progress was some positive news to end what was a busy year.
