A new adult ADHD team has been assigned to Cavan / Monaghan. Minister of State with responsibility for adult mental health and older people, Mary Butler TD, made the announcement yesterday with the caveat that the HSE get the new service up and running as soon as possible.
The specialist team will include a consultant psychologist, consultant occupational therapist, clinical nurse and admin staff. The team, which will be mobile, will serve Cavan, Monaghan, Louth and Meath.
Senator Robbie Gallagher announced the development for the region and said it was a good news story for many local adults: "It's a good news story in that there was a vacuum here because there were no teams available for adults with ADHD," Robbie Gallagher told Northern Sound, "I will be pressing the HSE to have this operational as soon as possible because it's important because there was a gap up to this point in time so, I'm looking forward to the establishment of these teams so that people who suffer with ADHD will have an outlet to go to get their condition assessed first of all and, then given the recognised proper treatment thereafter."
