A new summer festival to attract diaspora back to Co Cavan this summer has been launched.
Cavan Calling is set to take place from the 26 July to 30 July.
The event is being described as a celebration of all things Breffni and is aimed at those living in Cavan, those originally from Cavan living overseas, those with Cavan ancestry in their DNA, or those who simply have a connection with the lake county.
The centrepiece of Cavan Day will be on the Saturday of the event were an outdoor concert with headline performance from legendary rockers The Boomtown Rats. They might not like Mondays but they certainly like Cavan. A founding member of the band, Pete Briqette, is a native of Ballyjamesduff. The five day festival programme also includes a street carnival in Cavan town, food markets and a fireworks display. Cavan Calling will also coincide with the centenary celebrations at Kingspan Breffni, the home of Cavan GAA.
