The new €40m Cavan college of further education and training will serve as a feeder school into local business.
The campus, which, was first mooted in the early noughties has just been given the go-ahead to move to the design and planning pre-tender stage. The "College of the Future" will be on the existing site of the current Cavan college and will run the full list of courses currently on offer and a raft of new ones.
Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith served on the former VEC and was part of a team who called for a state-of-the-art campus to keep Cavan students in Cavan. Today, he says it's apparent the new college will serve the local economy well.
