A scheme aimed at increasing recycling levels has been described as transformational by a local Green Party representative.
From today, customers will pay a deposit of 15 to 25 cent on plastic bottles and cans. The money can be refunded at one of one-thousand-800 reverse vending machines nationwide.
Green Party candidate for Castleblayney and Carrickmacross in the upcoming local election, Tate Donnelly says the new scheme is certainly a win win situation. Customers will now pay a deposit when they buy drinks cans and bottles of up to three litres with a special logo, which can be refunded at designated shops around the country. The local Green Party candidate says these vending machines will ensure that these items will be recycled and this way there is no way they be contaminated.Tate Donnelly says this will reduce litter as it puts a price on a cans and bottles.
