A Co Monaghan man has been appointed the new Chief Executive of Monaghan County Council.
Robert Burns will take up the position on Monday September 25th.
He succeeds Eamon O'Sullivan, who recently retired on health grounds.
The Magheracloone native will move from the role of Director of Services for Housing and Community Development with Fingal County Council to his home county taking up the role as CE..
Mr Burns graduated as a civil engineer from Queens University Belfast in 1995 and worked for a time in private engineering consultancy practice before joining Irish Rail in 1998.
His appointment was announced at the monthly meeting of Monaghan County Council by Cathaoirleach David Maxwell who said he had met the new Chief Executive three weeks ago and he added that he was looking forward to Mr Burns taking up the role.
Members of the council joined together to pay tribute to the interim Chief Executive, Patricia Monahan who has been in the temporary role over the past 12 months. Ms Monahan will now revert back to her position as director of services with Monaghan County Council.
