Sinn Fein's Cathy Bennett has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council. Cllr Bennett who successfully topped the poll in the local election for the Monaghan Municipal District area said it is both an "honour" and a "privilege" to once again serve the people of Co Monaghan. The new Cathaoirleach previously carried out the role back in 2017-2018, as a result of this, she told Northern Sound that she is well aware of the amount of time, commitment and dedication needed over the next year.
Cllr Bennett told Northern Sound, "I would especially like to thank my family today, as they are the ones who will see the least of me over the next year. I will represent the people of Monaghan to the highest of standards and ensure that their voices are heard locally and nationally as we all work towards making Monaghan the very best that it can be. Cllr Bennett also outlined that some of the big-ticket items that she will be keeping to the forefront of her Agenda in the year ahead will include; Sliabh Beagh, Monaghan Women’s Assembly, and a major need for Traffic Calming Pilot Scheme for Villages.
