Fine Gael's TP O'Reilly has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council. Cllr O'Reilly who was first elected to Cavan County Council back in 2019 is the first to get the chain of office and become the county's first citizen in the new council term.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr O'Reilly said he was "delighted" with today's outcome, following on from the success of his party at the recent local elections which seen three Fine Gael representatives elected in the Ballyjamesduff MD and now with himself also sitting as the Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council. Cllr O'Reilly outlined some of the big ticket items which will also be on his agenda going forward; "The last five years has been a great experience and learning curve for me and I'd like to commend Cllr Philip Brady on the work he carried out as Cathaoirleach over the past year. Some of the things that I will be prioritising is services for children with autism, roads, and progression of the Virginia bypass which I am very keen to try and get moved along."
