The new Cathaoirleach and Leas Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council have been elected at the Council's Annual Meeting this week.
Cllr. David Maxwell has been appointed as Cathaoirleach while Cllr Pat Treanor has been appointed as Leas Cathaoirleach of the county council.
This is the second time that Cllr Maxwell has held the chair of the local authority position.
The Fine Gael Councillor takes over from the role of Councillor Sean Conlon who served as the Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council for the past 12 months.
Cllr Maxwell has been elected as a local representative for the past 20 years and speaking to Northern Sound the Monaghan native says he is looking forward to 'promoting the county' during his year long tenure.
He says he will be highlighting to central government the need for investment in Monaghan especially in the area of our local road network.
