A Cavan councillor has called for an upgrade to the parking meters in Cavan town.
Sinn Fein's Paddy McDonald says out of order machines are problematic and can cause an inconvenience to those who are unfamiliar with the town.
At Monday's Cavan County Council meeting, Councillor McDonald said that parking meters in counties Monaghan and Armagh have a "tap option" for bank cards and mobile phones and said that locals in Cavan would "benefit greatly" from this option also.
In his response, Senior Engineer for Roads, John McKiernan told those in attendance that 22 new meters of this kind, would be installed in Cavan town in the fourth quarter of this year.
Mr McKiernan also revealed that some of the meters purchased would also have cash option as well as providing change.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Councillor McDonald "welcomed" the announcement, stating that the move will benefit local businesses.
He added that he hopes the new machines will be installed in the town "sooner rather than later."
