The National transport Authority (NTA) has agreed to fund a TFI Local Link shuttle bus service between Emyvale and Carrickroe. The new route which is in operation from today follows months of enquiries and representations on the matter. Padraic Smyth is the Manager of Local Link Cavan/Monaghan. Speaking to Northern Sound, Padraic said that this new service will be of huge benefit to local business who first brought this issue to the fore. According to Padraic, the new service will be in operation for the next three months on a trial basis. As a result, he has encouraged locals to make use of the service and the opportunity that it will give to commuters.
Meanwhile, Senator Robbie Gallagher welcomed the decision of the National transport Authority (NTA) to agree to fund a TFI Local Link shuttle bus service between Emyvale and Carrickroe. Senator Gallagher said that initially the NTA was not convinced of the business case for the service. However, with the assistance of Local Link Cavan Monaghan, the NTA "came around." Speaking to Northern Sound, Senator Gallagher said this is very welcome news and is encouraging the local community to make good use of the service to ensure its future. He continued; "A timetable has already been prepared with the first bus out of Monaghan and all the times from the various locations. It will arrive in Emyvale at 7:31, where passengers from Carrickroe will transfer to another vehicle and onward to Carrickroe for about 7:40 with the drop off point being the Community Centre. Our aim is to serve the community who may wish to travel to Monaghan for 9am work or education, we need a central pickup point, and this seems like the most appropriate location. Having passengers travel in both directions will help the sustainability case for this pilot." Cllr Paudge Connolly also welcomed the news, adding that the new service will be a great enhancement to Carrickroe and the surrounding areas. Cllr Connolly commended all those involved in bringing this project to fruition and has also encouraged locals to avail of the new service in order to make it a "permanent feature" in the future.
