According to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry there were 233 new car registrations in Cavan; 248 in Co Monaghan; and 985 in Co Meath, in January. The statistics reveal that nationally, registrations were up 9.4% to 27,364 when compared to January 2022.
Meanwhile, 89 light commercial vehicles were registered in Cavan; 59 were registered in Monaghan; and 149 in Meath. There were also a number of registrations locally on heavy commercial vehicles including 21 in Monaghan; 18 in Meath; and 13 in Cavan.
The latest statistics also show that new electric car registrations reached their highest month on record with 3,682 recorded in January - up 36.5% when compared to the same month last year. Brian Cooke, SIMI Director General said the figures signal an "important step".
"Sales still remain 15% behind pre-Covid-19 levels and sales of commercial vehicles both Light and Heavy are also showing an increase on last year. Even more positively the sale of new EVs have shown a promising start to the year with 3,682 registrations which is a record monthly total.
"With supply chains improving, we anticipate continuing growth in the EV market, although this will not only be down to vehicle supply but also to the level of Government supports," he added.
