The new therapeutic support centre will be the first of five to be opened by Cancer Focus NI as part of a multi-million-pound investment, which was recently announced, along with the launch of a five-year cancer strategy by the charity.
Richard Spratt is the CEO of Cancer Focus NI. Speaking to Northern Sound, Richard said that the aim of the plan is to bring cancer care into local communities, particularly in rural areas like Fermanagh. He added that this service will help ensure that patients have a sense of being away from the clinical environment of a hospital.
"By the time the building is complete we hope that will be in the early part of 2024," explained Mr Spratt. "We will be recruiting staff from nursing and counselling backgrounds etc. We're also just about to open a new charity retail store in Enniskillen and that will also create employment on the retail side.
"It's really important for us to be truly regional in our service offering, we want to offer services right across the North and where we can in neighbouring border counties also."
