The age-old saying that Cavan has 'a lake for every day of the year' has been proven in a book published by a Cavan photographer.
The lakes of Cavan have been listed and photographed by Co Cavan photographer Hu O'Reilly. The photographs were taken through all seasons over eighteen months, with a focus on how people, animals, and wildlife interact with the local lakes.
With a foreword by the acclaimed Cavan writer Michael Harding and a comprehensive photographic index of 365 lakes, this is a book that anyone with an interest in Cavan, photography, or nature will enjoy.
Hu O'Reilly's love for photography began in 1996 when he started a Diploma in Photography course in D.I.T. School of Photography (Dublin). He then spent six years working as an assistant photographer and in photo-shoot production. In 2004-05 he worked as a cruise ship photographer in the North Atlantic, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and Brazil. Hu is a native of Crosserlough, Co. Cavan and spent 18 months during Covid researching, documenting and taking photographs for his new book the lakes of Cavan.
The Cavan photographer says he really enjoyed travelling around his home county documenting lakes that he had never seen or even heard of.
