A colleague who worked "on a daily basis" with murdered Cavan guard Adrian Donohoe, has written a book about the longest police investigation in the history of the state. Retired Detective Inspector Pat Marry described 41-year-old Adrian Donohoe from Kilnaleck as a "professional" and a "lovely guy".
The married father-of-two, he said, was "executed" at close range on the night of 25th January 2013 during a robbery at the Lordship Credit Union in County Louth. Pat Marry told the Joe Finnegan Show how he came off duty to attend the scene in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. In his book called "Murder at Lordship", which, he wrote together Irish Independent journalist Robin Schiller, Mr Marry details how right away guards knew they were searching for people with "border accents",
He also describes how, from a list of people gardaí knew to be involved in robberies like the one at Lordship, Aaron Brady, was the only person on the list not at home on the night of the murder. The book also goes into detail about the red flags which drew officers to the linking the suspects to the crime, like Aaron Brady who was eventually convicted of the capital murder of Garda Donohue in 2020.
