A new Bill before the Dail would see local meat plant owners pay sick pay to all migrant workers.
This afternoon, People before Profit introduced the Employment Permits Bill, which would see employers commit to providing illness benefits to incoming workers before permits are authorised.
Recent figures show there have been 42 clusters of Covid-19 in meat and poultry factories during the third wave, involving 1,071 cases.
Unions have previously claimed that some employees continued to work while showing Covid symptoms because they lacked sick pay.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Deputy Paul Murphy said there's no reason why it can't be introduced.
