'Children on the PDS waiting list will be moved on to the team in Carrickmacross'

Down Syndrome Centre North East (DSCNE) in Carrickmacross has been selected as one of five for a nationwide pilot scheme.

It will see services centralised to Carrickmacross and children moved off the PDS waiting list and onto a waiting list that will operate from the south Monaghan town.

Minister of State, Anne Rabbitte visited the centre on Monday where she made the announcement and added that funding would be provided for the initiative.

The Minister said that Down Syndrome North East does "invaluable work" and provided a wonderful service for over 80 families in the region.

She added that much has been achieved through fundraising and the centres hard work and dedication had eased pressure on HSE services in the area.

"We are looking at a bespoke model of delivery within the four counties based out of Carrickmacross," added Minister Rabbitte.

We [Government] would support funding, speech and language, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy with a service level agreement with the HSE.

"This would ensure that children on the PDS waiting list would be removed from that waiting list and moved on to the team here in Carrickmacross."
