The Cavan and Mongahan Education and Training Board is seeking planning permission to develop an apprenticeship training space in Monaghan Town. CMETB want the unit in the Milltown Industrial Estate to run practical skills training, specifically in electrical and manufacturing apprenticeships
A spokesperson from CMETB told Northern Sound one of the reasons the local board is developing the training unit, is to address the backlog of electrical apprentices nationally. Their application lodged with Monaghan County Council earlier this month, states the board seeks 10-year permission to change the use of the unit from commercial/light industry use into a training facility with associated teaching spaces.
CMETB said "there is a strong demand for apprenticeship provision, and a national backlog in electrical apprenticeship training." They said the proposed facility at Milltown would "enable CMETB to expand its practical skills training and contribute to addressing the national backlog." Training in original equipment manufacturing apprenticeships will run alongside electrical apprenticeship courses in the proposed unit
