A Monaghan mother has received confirmation from the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) that negotiations are underway in relation to additional ASD units to be available in Monaghan Town. Siobhan Cawley previously raised her concerns over the lack of special classes and units available in Monaghan Town which has forced children like her own daughter out of the locality.
While the NCSE have yet to confirm the number of units or where the additional classes will be placed, Siobhan feels like a weight has been lifted off her shoulders knowing that her daughter will be able to attend school close to home. Speaking to Northern Sound, Siobhan said that while she recognises that there is still a lot of work to be done, she is thrilled over the confirmation she has received by the NCSE.
Siobhan highlighted her thanks to those who have supported her online petition which has helped get her campaign to where it is today. "It has been confirmed to me that from September 2024, we will have these units in Monaghan Town and that is very promising," she explained. "The campaign has been so worth it and I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who signed or shared the online petition and showed their support, it really does mean a lot."
