The need to upgrade the East/West Link route has been highlighted by a local TD.
In a recent Parliamentary Question to the Minister for Transport, Cavan/Monaghan TD Brendan Smith asked if funding will be provided in 2021 for the upgrading of the road given its strategic importance.
He cited the very heavy volume of traffic, particularly heavy goods vehicles, that this road carries on a daily basis as another reason upgrading works are needed.
Minister Eamon Ryan stated that improvement and maintenance of regional and local roads is the council's responsibility, however, grant support has been provided to Cavan County Council to enable work to update its appraisal of the scheme.
