The issue of children sitting having their lunch on floors in hallways and other rooms in a Cavan secondary school was been raised in the Seanad today.
Senator Joe O'Reilly raised what he described as 'disgraceful' that 620 pupils enrolled in St. Aidan's Comprehensive School in Cootehill have only seating for 60 children during lunchbreaks.
He said for lots of reasons the provision of a gym and canteen is needed and needed now.
It has been 25 years since this application for a new gym was first applied for by the Cootehill School.
The Fine Gael Senator told the Seanad earlier today that this situation needs to be dealt with as a matter of urgency.
He reiterated to the Minister for State Kieran O'Donnell and strongly stated that this can't carry on and that is was unfair on the pupils of St. Aidan's and that he would be raising it directly with the Minister for Education.
Senator Joe O'Reilly says the request is a very basic ask but the Minister needs to deliver on getting the school the facilities it needs.
