The need for a domestic violence refuge in Monaghan has been highlighted once again.
There have long been calls for a refuge to be provided as women and children in the Northern Sound region must travel to Drogheda or Navan to find a safe space.
At this month’s meeting of Monaghan County Council councillor Sean Conlon said that there had still been no proper debate on the topic due to the lack of reaction from government departments.
While he acknowledges that work that An Tearmann does in the locality for victims he feels additional resources are necessary.
He has called for a letter to be sent to the Department of Justice explaining the urgent need for supports, telling Shannonside northern sound that they will continue to campaign until they are heard:
