Cavan and Monaghan have received nearly €2m in funding under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme in conjunction with ‘Our Rural Future’.
The funding will support projects that tackle vacancy and dereliction by bringing landmark town centre buildings back to life.
Co Cavan received a total of €1 million with Cavan town, Bailieborough, Swanlinbar, Killinaleck, Red Hills and Virginia the main benefactors.
Works to improve streetscapes, amenities and parks, and heritage can now go ahead.
Meanwhile, Co Monaghan was in receipt of just over €750,000 with Clones, Drum and Rockcorry, Inniskeen, Threemilehouse, and Monaghan Town set to benefit.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys announced almost €18.5 million to benefit rural towns and villages the length across the country.
She said it was about "breathing new life" into rural Ireland.
"This will tackle dereliction and vacancy - we know that has been an issue in rural for decades," she added.
"It's about creating public spaces, green spaces, community parks in the centre of towns and villages, improving the public realm and attracting more remote works to rural areas."
