A bat survey is set to take place in Monaghan next year in association with Bat Conservation Ireland.
The National Daubenton's Bat Survey will take place next summer across the county with the aim to find out what kind of numbers are in Monaghan.
Data for Monaghan is quite low when it comes to the counting of bats especially the Daubenton breed according to the Monaghan County Councils Biodiversity officer Patricia McCreesh.
She says that this type of bat is really important for the region and numbers have been decreasing all over the world so this survey will allow Monaghan to do its bit towards the national figure here in the country.
Monaghan County Councils Biodiversity officer Patricia McCreesh says the survey will rely on local people getting involved in undertaking the counting to get an exact number on the pacific breed of bats in the county.
