Local groups across Cavan and Monaghan are celebrating National Breastfeeding week which takes place every year between October the 1st and October the 7th. This year, the HSE-run breastfeeding groups in Cavan and Monaghan are coming together to have a 'grand' coffee morning to mark the occasion in the Errigal House Hotel, Cootehill.
The event will take place from 10am to 12pm tomorrow. Mairead McCahill works as a lactation consultant in the Cavan Monaghan region. Speaking to Northern Sound, she pointed out that this year's theme is focused on making local communities and workplaces more breastfeeding friendly.
Mairead added that a total of six breastfeeding groups across Cavan and Monaghan are expected to attend tomorrow's event: "The coffee morning will take place between 10am and 12pm tomorrow morning," explained Mairead. "We have six groups between Cavan and Monaghan who are currently providing peer support for mums all meeting, so we're hoping to have about 70/75 people there who are mostly mothers with babies and mothers with toddlers who are continuing to breastfeed so we're really looking forward to it."
Mairead also highlighted that there will be another initiative launched on the day, specifically for the Monaghan area titled - 'We are Breastfeeding Friendly Monaghan'. According to Mairead this initiative involves businesses in Monaghan which have signed up to let the public know that they are welcome to mothers who breastfeed and their babies, as a way to help local women feel more comfortable in social settings.
