National Bike Week kicks off from today Saturday, the 13th of May to next Sunday, the 21st.
The occasion aims to celebrate and promote the benefits of cycling in people of all ages and abilities. Numerous activities are taking place across Cavan, Monaghan, Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon that will encourage people across the region to take to the bike.
Morna O'Hanlon, Programmes Officer with Cavan Sports Partnership, says there is something to suit everyone - young and old.
She added that Cavan Cycling Hub will also be launched this week in conjunction with the national programme of events.
"We have actually developed a cycling hub at Cavan Leisure Centre and this is an initiative that has been funded by Sports Ireland through the Dormant Accounts Fund. The aim of that hub is to act as a base for cycling participation programmes and training courses throughout the county. "It's a long-term project for Cavan Sports Partnership, Cycling Ireland, and Cavan Cycling Club. And, it's a really exciting initiative," said Ms O'Hanlon.
